WARD TRAVEL LEAGUE

HISTORY OF CECIL WARD

Cecil Ward was a genius at organizing, his untiring efforts in behalf of junior bowling in the United States and Canada have done much to assure the future of the game and place Detroit in the front ranks of teenage competition.  Cecil organized youth leagues and tournaments and his Cecil Ward All Star Traveling Classic for youngsters under 21 was a training ground for many outstanding bowlers that moved on to the All Star Classic.  Including the Hall of Famer Aleta Sill who competed in the Ward Travel League until the age of 16, where she then moved on to a outstanding career in the PWBA.

For his continuous effort in promoting youth bowling in the Detroit area, Cecil was awarded "Bowlers Man of the Year" in 1959
The Ward Travel League today continues with the same thoughts and effort that Cecil put into youth bowling in the Detroit Area.  In the past 10 years the Ward has produced bowler who have gone on to college and compete in higher competitive bowling leagues and tournaments, as well as making it to the pro levels.

His Hall of fame plaque can be seen on the wall at Thunderbowl Lanes in Allen Park.  If you are ever there, check it out.

Thank you Cecil!!
